BIO
Michelyn Johnson is currently working at Denver Public Schools as a Project Manager with the Office of Family and Community Engagement. Michelyn is a strong advocate of closing the education gap for minority students as well as the diversity gap between students and teachers within Denver Public Schools. She has helped to build relationships with a number of Historically Black Institutions and their College of Education to bring in more teachers that are diverse to DPS. Michelyn is currently working on a student to teacher pipeline to get DPS students to return in teaching roles when they graduate from college. Her professional interest focuses on diversity within Denver Public Schools and ensuring students of color are not left behind academically.
Michelyn has establish a nonprofit called RISE 5280 that offers mentorship to high school students of color and the opportunity to attend yearly HBCU Tours. Michelyn is also a founding member of C.H.I.C (Collaborative Healing Initiatives within Community), which is a program to help women whom been affected by gangs in any sort of capacity and who are in a critical transitional period of their life.

By leveraging community and business partnerships, programs and services are coordinated to empower parents to partner with their children’s schools to improve student educational outcomes. There is a particular emphasis to focus on outreach efforts to ensure equity and remove barriers to success.
