BIO
Xavier Jennings grew up in the inner city of Denver, CO. He is a proud father of two kids. As a former ‘opportunity youth’ who faced many obstacles that forced him to dropout of high school, Xavier now mentors, teaches classes, and works directly with youth as they work to transform their own lives and better their community through meaningful service opportunities and educational experiences.
Xavier is the Manager: Equity & Leadership at Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) and apart of the Program Leadership (Staff) Team. He is responsible for providing diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings to all MHYC Staff, Corpsmembers (youth participants), and Board Members, while also providing oversight of leadership development component to advance opportunities for youth participants to advance their skills and voice. He develops and implement leadership trainings within each program while teaching in the classroom. Xavier has been with the agency since 2008, when he graduated from MHYC’s YouthBuild program. In his free time, he volunteers as a coach for little league sports in the local basketball and football leagues and future aspirations include possibly start his own non-profit for youth one day, hoping to make positive change for barriers facing underserved youth. He has dedicated his life to service and to removing systems of inequities and injustice for young people who faced barriers as he did; while empowering and providing them with support he lacked growing up.
